As with most RP servers, GunSmoke will have a range of classes to choose from for your character. In addition to classes there will also be jobs your character can undertake that will fulfill mainly RP needs. Some jobs have been created by the admin team and come with attached responsibilities and rules. Some will be self employed, such as the thief/outlaw, others will be managed by the Mayor of the settlement you live in, or by other fellow players.
Obtaining a job is completely done in roleplay. If there is a job you want, it is up to you to roleplay your way to get it! An important thing to bear in mind is some jobs will make your character perm-able. Consider the consequences carefully before putting your character forward for these roles and be sure you want the responsibility that comes with them.
Generally you are able to take on as many jobs as you have the ability to perform, except for the Mayor and Sheriff jobs (if you are a mayor or sheriff you are limited to that as your sole job). Want to be a Pony Express rider and a bartender? Sure! Want to be a deputy and a preacher? You can do that! The only limitation is that you need to be able to fulfil the requirements of the jobs you take on. For example you cannot be a barber if you don’t have and maintain a barber’s shop.
These are the jobs the admin team have come up with, if it’s within the realms of 19th Century Old West, and not breaking any set rules, feel free to come up with your own – if you’d like to run it by one of the admin team first, please do.
Jobs are gained through RP. In your backstory you may state you fulfilled one of these roles elsewhere, for example ‘John was a deputy in Fairfax County for ten years before deciding it was time for a change and uprooting his family to GunSmoke.’ but you cannot state you fulfil one of these roles IN GunSmoke in your backstory. You start your story in GunSmoke with a clean slate.
